Who Are We? We are the Crush, Connecticut’s first semi-professional women’s football team. We play full-contact, NFL style football. We wear the same gear and sweat it out just like the men do. But we are women. And we love football. We are pioneers. We hold full and part time jobs in addition to committing to a full practice and game schedule. We are mothers, wives, teachers, policewomen, firewomen, entrepreneurs, college graduates, and students. Some of us are still in high school.
We are athletes. Some of us are former NCAA Division I and II competitors in basketball, softball, soccer, and track. Some are trying sports for the very first time. Either way, we work hard. We push our bodies and our minds to their limits and beyond. We’ve made it through rigorous tryouts, training regiments, and lifting programs together. Not one of us will back down from challenge. We are not afraid of physical pain. We are survivors and we love this game. Many of us have dreamt of playing full-contact football since we were young girls.
We hail from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. We are headquartered in Newington, CT and practice and play in Windsor, New Britain, and Hartford. Though we are from all over New England, and come from all walks of life, when we step onto the field or into the arena, we are one. We stick up for each other. We work hard for our teammates. We work hard for ourselves, for our families. We are role models for our daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and our fans young and old alike.
We know what it’s like to fail, but we are doing everything it takes to win. We study playbooks, memorize techniques, and put in hours upon hours in the weight room. We tackle, block, run, and hit, hard. We get it done. We respect our teammates, our fans, our opponents, our officials, and ourselves. We will accept nothing less. We are the Connecticut Crush. We will be entering our 8th season in 2008 as a team competing in the National Women's Football Association (NWFA).
